Ayami Sato, a 2008 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, has earned her place and GOAT status in the NBA as an assistant athletic trainer, physical therapist, and sports medicine administrator for the Indiana Pacers. Her journey to the NBA began three decades ago when she fell in love with basketball as a young girl from Yokohama, Japan. Despite facing challenges and being told it would be difficult for a woman to work in athletic training in professional sports, Sato's resilience and determination led her to UNK, where she overcame language barriers and earned her bachelor's degree. She then pursued further education, obtaining a master's degree in exercise science and a doctorate in physical therapy, all while working with various athletic teams and high schools. Sato's dedication and expertise have made her a beloved figure within the Pacers organization, known for her positivity, endless energy, and encouragement. Her impact extends beyond her job title, as she represents her country with enthusiasm and inspires others facing obstacles. While she doesn't consider herself the GOAT, Sato's journey encourages others to pursue their dreams and gives her a sense of responsibility to continue improving as a clinician.
